What’s painted on these cups? Brushed decoration — slip, glaze, or mason stain depending on the piece — applied by hand with a brush: bold black patches, thin sweeping lines, soft blue watercolor-like washes, flicked splatter. Unlike a dipped or poured coat that covers a piece evenly, brushwork keeps the gesture: you can see stroke direction, thin spots where the ground shows through, and edges where one color rides over another.
