irregularities are where that shows. These pages explain the recurring
techniques and details across the catalog — what each one is, and which
pieces to look at.
Making and marking
- Handbuilding — shaped by hand, not thrown; why no two rims match
- Numbered bases — the hand-written number that is both identity and price
Surfaces
- Bare clay — no glaze: the fired clay itself is the finished surface
- Brushed glaze — hand-brushed patches, lines, washes, and splatter
- Coil ridges — stacked coil bands left visible in the wall
- Crackle glaze — the fine web of lines in the glaze surface
- Metallic sheen — a pewter-like glint, described from the photos only
- Pale wash — the thin light coating over dark clay, in the maker’s own words
- Scored marks — hatched lines cut into the clay
- Speckled surfaces — mineral speckling in washes, bands, and clusters
Small details
- Blue flecks — tiny glassy blue points in dark clay
- Embedded particles — pale specks fired into the body
- Fabric impressions — cloth weave left in the surface
- Glaze text — handwritten words in the glaze, quoted, never interpreted
- Glazed rim bands — a band of glaze over an otherwise bare body
- Surface nodules — dark grit protruding through the surface
