A wide, softly barrel-sided cup standing on a bare turned foot, cream all over except where the weather crosses it. A dark charcoal band runs along the rim and bleeds down from it; below that a smeared grey smoke-band pushes across the mid-body, edges feathering out where it thinned. Turquoise and pale-blue wash patches sit against the grey, a black blob-stroke with a tail runs low near the foot with a short row of small dark dots beside it, a thin dark line wanders down from the rim on the washed side, and rust-brown pin-spots freckle the cream between them, all brushed decoration.
Then the cup surprises you from above. The interior is nearly black: charcoal grey swirled around a dark centre, pale streaks turning through it, a scatter of small dark pits near the rim. Nothing on the outside prepares you for it. Underneath, “2084” is incised into the bare base in a loose hand.
What’s the surprise on this one? The inside. Cream, turquoise and smoke on the outside — then a near-black swirl the moment you look down into it. Piece 2084 of 10,000, listed at $20.84.
