The most graphic of the painted cups. A white ground carries a row of bold black brush dashes — blocky marks stacked almost like a barcode — laid over blue-grey washes and dark speckle, some of the black gone glossy where it thickened. The strokes are unmistakably brushed, discrete and deliberate. The base carries “2170” handwritten in black.
Is that writing? It reads as a rhythm of black dashes, not letters — bold brushwork recorded exactly as strokes and never decoded, the third of the hand-painted trio with 2159 and 2167. Piece 2170 of 10,000, listed at $21.70.
