A small round handmade cup, drawn in a little at the waist, standing on a narrow foot. Its ground is cream-white and glossy, and one side of it has gone dark: a broad charcoal field wraps the right of the body, soft at every edge, breaking apart as it travels left into separate blobs that trail off across the cream. A turquoise wash sits behind them at the far edge, one pale-blue stroke floats loose mid-wall, and fine dark speckle and rust-amber pin-spots carry over the whole thing — brushed decoration, soft at every boundary.
Turn it and the cup goes quiet. The far face is nearly all cream, freckled with speckle and a few rust pin-spots, with just one dark blob edging back into frame.
The best surprise is overhead: black spatter has run over the rim on one side and dripped down inside, three or four dark tracks descending the pale glossy wall of the well, with a single turquoise fleck landed beside them. Does the decoration go inside? A little of it does — dark spatter sits on the rim and runs down the inside wall in three or four tracks, one turquoise fleck landed beside them. Piece 2,090 of 10,000, listed at $20.90.
