Warm amber-tan glazed handbuilt mug-form ceramic cup with a large rough squared pulled loop handle and bold dark chocolate brushstroke panels, piece 2049 of A Penny For Your Pottery.

The brushwork family goes amber: a mug-form cup glazed glossy, gritty ochre from rim to foot, with a large rough squared pulled loop for a whole hand. The decoration keeps it to two moves — a dark chocolate blotch panel with a pale island floating inside it on one flank, and a single confident horizontal stroke across the other. A fine vertical crack line crosses the dark band on one side, recorded as it appears. The rim pinches wavy under the gloss, in the manner of its neighbors 2048 and 2050.

How many brushstrokes does piece 2049 need? Two, apparently — one blotch, one line, and the amber does the rest. Piece 2049 of 10,000, listed at $20.49.
