A rounded cup with a slightly tapered body, an uneven, slightly everted rim, and a footring narrower than the body. A vertical black band with a raised, bubbled and pitted texture wraps roughly a third of the circumference, small light specks embedded in it; the face opposite carries wavy, horizontal blue-gray brush marks with darker dot accents over a cream-toned ground, and a light blue-gray wash sits near the rim at one edge. The interior glaze photographs grayish taupe, with spiral marks and a few small black specks on the floor. The foot is bare buff clay bearing “2181” handwritten, with a thin black drip and a little blue speckling near its edge.
One cup, two faces? A pitted black band holds about a third of the wall while wavy blue-gray brush lines take the face opposite, and each rotation of one catches the edge of the other. Piece 2181 of 10,000, listed at $21.81.
