Where the painted cups before it brushed black onto white, this one drowns the white. A cylinder cup wears a broad matte-black field brushed over most of the body — flooded so heavily the black becomes the ground rather than a mark — with sky-blue washes pooling at the top and bottom edges and only thin white gaps left showing between. The base carries “2172” handwritten in black.
All black? Nearly — a heavily brushed black field with blue at its margins, dark enough that the cup reads as the negative of its painted neighbours. Piece 2172 of 10,000, listed at $21.72.
