Handbuilt ceramic cup with a pale twisted pulled handle, bold red-brown and chocolate strokes and a framed patchwork panel over a milky wash, piece 2048 of A Penny For Your Pottery.

The dressiest of the brushwork cups: over a greige body and milky wash run bold red-brown and chocolate horizontal strokes, and on one flank a full patchwork panel — a dark frame around a rust-red mottled square, like a stamp pasted to the cup. The pulled handle is its own event, twisted pale clay like rope. Inside, the tan wall carries lavender-grey smears and a glossy ring at the well; the bottom view shows “2048” incised cleanly in the bare speckled base, with a rust stroke wrapping onto the lower flank.

What’s framed on piece 2048? A rust-red square in a dark border — the brush built a little picture and hung it on the cup’s flank. Piece 2048 of 10,000, listed at $20.48.
