What are those little dark pits scattered across the white? Two reviewed cups carry a chain of small dark burst-craters — tiny erupted, pitted blisters that march diagonally across an otherwise pale glaze like a scatter of spent matchheads. 2168 and 2171 are a close pair: on both, the craters cluster and trail rather than spread evenly, each a small dark pock ringed by lighter glaze.
What caused the craters — a bubble in the glaze, a burst inclusion, something that boiled away in the kiln — is never asserted; the pages describe the pitted chain as it photographs. The term is kept distinct from erupted nodules (large bosses, glassy nodules, or shard-like plates erupting through the wall) and from the star-like speckle-cluster look still waiting on its members. Approved in the 2026-07-13 batch-15 ruling with two members.
