What are the pale specks in the clay? Small light particles scattered through a darker clay body — visible as flecks and drifts across the surface, densest where the clay was stretched. Potters usually get this look from grog (fired clay ground up and wedged back in), and the store’s own titles for two of these pieces say “groggy” — but these pages only report what the photos show, not a recipe.
The strongest example is 1761, speckled in heavy drifts; 1759, 1760, and 1762 carry the same flecking, and 2259 shows it under a crackle glaze.
