What do the pots say? Three reviewed pieces carry words cut into their clay while it was still soft. 2011’s trumpet bottle shows letters starting like “Woo—” before the glaze buries the rest; 2013’s dark amphora says SUP, plainly; and 2141 — the writing cup — carries whole fragments scratched through its sandy brown coat: “I’m going- -to”, “Home”, “That”, and a trailing ”…!!!”, with doodles between them.
The rule on every page is the same: the letters are quoted exactly as they photograph and never interpreted, completed, or assembled into a message. A half-buried word stays half-buried; 2141’s fragments are never joined into a sentence. The term is kept distinct from glaze text, whose words are written in glaze decoration rather than cut into the clay. Held at the 2026-07-12 batch-12 ruling with two members, approved in the batch-14 ruling when 2141 made three.
