Piece 1738 is a tapered cup that narrows toward its base and opens to a dramatic saddle-dipped rim — two raised peaks with a low valley between. The bare, unglazed wall is a near-black charcoal, coarse and sandy, carrying pale grog-like specks and, along one side, small dark protruding nodules. A band of fine horizontal ridging wraps the lower body. The uneven walls and torn, wavy rim read as hand-forming; there are no throwing rings or turned foot.
