A closed handbuilt boulder in dark bare clay, warmer and browner than the sooty 2284 before it, cupped in a hand in the opening photo and stood on its own for the rest. What carries this one is the grain: pale particles drift across the lower body in loose clustered bands, catching the light against the dark surface, dense enough in places to read as a pale haze and sparse enough elsewhere to count grain by grain. A small round hole sits at the crown, low and neat, with a dried grass stem set into it in two photos.
