A handbuilt vessel that photographs a dusty mauve-red, its rim extremely ragged — the store’s title calls it an “Eroded Rim,” and the raggedness is right there in the photos. The surface is rough, crusty, and granular, crossed by networks of fine cracks, and the close-up shows scattered pale embedded specks in the dense sandy body. A third photo looks down into the open, torn top.
Is it really red? In these photos it reads closer to a dusty mauve-red than the bright terracotta of its neighbors — the store’s title says “Wild Red Clay”; the color you see here is the color as photographed. Piece 1,694 of 10,000, listed at $16.94.
