An upright, roughly cylindrical vessel that leans and swells as it rises, its walls carried up in irregular horizontal ridges to a torn, uneven open mouth. The dark red-brown surface has gone to a blistered, bead-covered crust, and where the light rakes across the crown it lifts to a bright silvery sheen — salt-fired, the shine the firing left. Lower down, pale and golden flecks surface through the crust. The leaning walls and torn rim read as handbuilt. It was photographed on a wooden sill against a workshop wall.
