Nine closed handbuilt boulders in coarse dark bare clay, photographed together on July 16, 2026 — the most uniform run in the catalog and the largest gathering of pierced work since the charcoal cups of the 1770s. Every one is a sealed rock-like form with no rim and no opening but the hole bored through its crown, and every one is photographed with a dried grass stem standing in that hole.

Within that sameness the differences are the whole point, and two of them have causes the maker has put on the record. 2283 is crossed edge to edge with cream veining — nepheline syenite set on the closed form and run down it with water. 2289, the largest of the nine, is opened up: controlled thermal shock has broken its dark surface through to the paler clay inside. The rest differ by hand and eye alone — 2280 carries three holes across a flattened crown where the others carry one, 2282 comes out warm umber-brown against seven charcoal neighbors, 2284 is the blackest and roughest, and 2287 is the only upright, egg-shaped with a fan of broad swept drags across its belly.

Two things this range does not say. The single crown hole here is not the removable rod/bamboo handle recorded for the pierced cups of the 1770s — the maker ruled that out for these boulders, and no other purpose is on the record. And the outdoor rock photographs that appear in 2282’s fourth listing image are, in the maker’s words, just for fun: they carry no sourcing or provenance meaning.

The run has one gap: 2286 is absent from the store export that produced these pages, so it has no page here.
