The darkest of the July 16 boulders: a closed handbuilt form in bare clay that photographs almost soot-black, with none of the pale marking its neighbors carry. The surface is the coarsest of the group — heavily granular, dimpled and pitted all over, broken by short dark creases where the wall was worked — and only a scatter of small pale specks catches the light. A single small round hole is bored through the crown. The first photo shows it close up, its rim rising into a low volcano-like peak around the bore; a dried grass stem stands in it in another.
