Rust and pale layered handbuilt ceramic tea-bowl cup with a dark crusted rim, piece 2064 of A Penny For Your Pottery.

A chawan built like sediment: rust and pale layers band their way down the bare body, pit holes freckling the surface, under a dark wet-look crusted rim laced with white crawled lines. The base-up view shows “2064” incised in the red-brown base; the top-down one finds silvery squiggle traces at the dark well — another entry in the run of silvery line-drawings that thread through 2055, 2056, 2057, and 2058.

Why does the wall look striped? The body reads in layers, rust over pale over rust, like a cut through a hillside — how the layers got there stays the maker’s business. Piece 2064 of 10,000, listed at $20.64.
