Fourth of the rocky chawan run: a bare rust-red and orange body mottled with black zones that read like fire shadows, tiny pits dotting the surface, and the family’s thick dark wet-look crust riding the rim. Turn it over and it introduces itself — “2058” handwritten in dark strokes on the bare base, clearly legible, the medium its own secret. The top-down view finds the silvery glassy ring-and-line drawing at the dark well that this run keeps repeating, with the crawled silvery ring at the rim to match 2055, 2056, and 2057.
Did it come out of a fire? Out of a kiln, technically — but the black mottling over rust makes it look pulled from a campfire this morning. Piece 2058 of 10,000, listed at $20.58.
