Sand-speckled grey-beige handbuilt ceramic cup with a small pulled handle, piece 1954 of A Penny For Your Pottery.

The first handle in the reviewed catalog. A handbuilt cup like a river stone — grey-beige, peppered with dark grit through the whole surface — with a rough little pulled loop attached at the side and a warm rust band crossing the belly. The pinched rim carries glossy drips; the interior goes dark and wet-looking. After 1,953 pieces without one, a handle.

Why does a handle matter here? Because the catalog had never shown one — this cup starts a family that runs through the rest of the run. Piece 1954 of 10,000, listed at $19.54.
