Two-tone handbuilt ceramic rock mug with a pierced pulled handle, piece 1986 of A Penny For Your Pottery.

Handle number three: a handbuilt mug split into weather bands — dark grey-brown above, warm tan below, like a hillside at dusk — with a rough pulled loop pierced clean through for a finger. The interior pools glossy. After 1954 and 1971, the handles are officially a habit.

Three handles in one run — deliberate? The pots don’t testify to intent; they just keep arriving with loops. Piece 1986 of 10,000, listed at $19.86.
