The excavated run opens here: a dark handbuilt vessel dusted end to end with pale speckle, like frost settled on black soil. The photos stage it on the studio floor with a bundle of dried seed-heads standing in its mouth. Its underside carries the number 1829, though the photos leave open whether the digits are cut into the clay or drawn onto it — so the pages say only that the number is there.
What are the pale flecks? Fine light specks scattered through the dark surface — the photos show the dusting, not what made it. Piece 1829 of 10,000, listed at $18.29.
