A closed, handbuilt boulder in near-black charcoal — an upright ovoid whose rough, lumpen wall breaks into soft angular planes, drawing in at a slightly pinched top to a small, neat mouth. There is no neck and no handle; the opening is a small tidy slit at the crown of the form. The store stages it on a shelf directly beneath a wall dartboard, a cup of darts standing nearby.
Is 1812 open or closed? It is a closed rock-like form: the body rounds up to a small mouth at the top rather than opening out, so it reads as a sealed boulder rather than a cup. Piece 1812 of 10,000, listed at $18.12.
