The writing cup. A globe-bodied cup wears a coarse, sandy umber-brown wash over white, with a matte black band riding the shoulder — and someone has scratched words clean through the coat while it could still be cut, the lines showing white against the brown. The legible fragments, kept separate because the cup keeps them separate: “I’m going- -to”, “Home”, “That”, and a trailing ”…!!!”. Between them, doodles — boxes, a shape that could be an eye or a boat, a round-headed stick figure. What it adds up to, the cup doesn’t say. The base carries ribbed grooves and “2141” handwritten in brown.
