The odd one out. Set among painted tea bowls, this cup wears no blue or black at all: a bare warm grey-beige body, rough and sand-textured, with dark grains and pale specks visible right in the surface — and, pouring over the rim, a glossy white glazed liner that fills the inside. Sand for the hand, glass for the mouth, exactly the contrast that named the family back on cups 2096 and 2103. The base carries “2188” handwritten on the gritty clay.
Why no color here? Because this cup keeps its clay bare — a grit-flecked stoneware shell around a smooth white liner, the sand-grit look dropped in among the painted chawans. Piece 2188 of 10,000, listed at $21.88.
