Bulbous glossy cream ceramic cup with a wavy rim and a thin iron-brown wisp across one flank, piece 2154 of A Penny For Your Pottery.

The May 4 session opens a family of bulbous white cups — rounded bodies, softly wavy rims, an even glossy cream glaze. This first one is nearly bare: a thin iron-brown wisp drifts diagonally across the flank, trailing a few tiny orange speckles, the faintest cousin of the rust streaks that run through the rest of this run. Underneath, a recessed foot spirals to a center point and carries “2154” handwritten in soft brown.

Barely a mark? Barely — a single pale wisp on a clean white belly, where the cups just ahead wear the same rust-brown color as a full streak down the wall. Piece 2154 of 10,000, listed at $21.54.
