A near-twin to 2154 — the same bulbous white body and wavy rim — but its flank mark is bolder: a jagged iron-brown scar cutting across the wall, and inside it a small torn gap where the glaze parts to show the paler clay beneath. It photographs as an incident in the surface, dark-edged and irregular, recorded here exactly as it looks and characterized neither as damage nor as soundness. The recessed foot carries “2155” handwritten in soft brown.
A hole in the glaze? A small torn opening at the heart of the iron scar, the clay showing through — the most eventful surface in the early May-4 cups, and left to speak for itself. Piece 2155 of 10,000, listed at $21.55.
