The last of the April 30 trio trades gloss for a dry, chalky finish: a matte warm-white barrel cup, its exterior powdery rather than shiny, scattered with small iron tan-brown spots. On one side a dark sooty band crusts the rim, as if that edge stood closer to the heat. Tip it toward the light and the inside answers back — a glossy white glazed lining, the wet counterpoint to the dry outer wall. One April frame tips far enough to catch the base at an angle, its number 2153 handwritten on the bare clay, and the August overhead base shot confirms it plainly.
Dry outside, wet inside? That’s the contrast the cup is built on — a matte iron-flecked shell with a scorched rim, wrapped around a smooth glassy white interior. Piece 2153 of 10,000, listed at $21.53.
