A low rounded cup, wide-mouthed and full in the belly, sitting straight down onto a bare foot. The front is mostly quiet: cream-white, lightly speckled, with one long pale-blue swipe running down from the rim like a single stroke of paint left to itself, and charcoal masses gathering low along the foot line with loose black spatter drifting between them.
The reverse is where it turns up the volume. A large glossy black field descends from the rim, sitting over a slate-grey wash so the wall reads two tones deep, with cream breaking through the gaps in torn shapes. The two greys meet in a soft ridge down the middle of that face, and small dark pits speckle the lower edge.
Looking in, the interior is pale cream and glossy, quiet apart from a few dark specks and a single black stroke coming over the rim. Underneath, on the bare base, “2095” is handwritten in black, stacked on two lines.
Which face is the real one? They both are — the blue swipe if you want the cup calm, the black field if you want it loud, and the same turn of the wrist gets you either. Piece 2095 of 10,000, listed at $20.95.
