The big vessels begin: nine of them run from here to 2079, and 2071 opens the run bare — buff-cream clay, heavily thumb-worked, folded and kneaded until the walls carry the whole story of their making, finished with a ragged torn rim and no glaze anywhere. A dark plum-maroon vein smudges its way diagonally around the mid-body like a bruise of smoke, with small dark flecks drifting near it; what made the mark, the photos keep to themselves. Its close sibling 2072 carries the same scale and bare body, splashed blue instead of plum.
Why is it unglazed? As photographed, the clay is the whole show — every knead, fold, and tear left legible, with one plum shadow wandering through. Piece 2071 of 10,000, listed at $20.71.
