Pale handbuilt ceramic bottle with a short chimney neck and maroon-rust webbing over its crown and shoulder, piece 2009 of A Penny For Your Pottery.

An ovoid pale body rises into a short chimney of a neck, its rim torn and crusted — the bottle silhouette, handbuilt in the same sandstone clay as 2001 and 2004, and wearing the same family crest: maroon and rust-red mottling webbed over the crown and shoulder. One small dark pit sits on the shoulder like a fly on a peach.

Why do pieces 2001, 2004, and 2009 look related? Same pale body, same rusty webbing — a run of kiln siblings opening this range, each wearing the red differently. Piece 2009 of 10,000, listed at $20.09.
