The run opens loud: a handbuilt cup whose glossy white glaze is torn through by bold, sand-textured dark veins — grey-brown swaths that ride the wall like exposed rock under snow. The rim pinches and dips; the interior pools glossy white with a faint ring at the well; thin lines wander the white zones and are left to be what they are.
Is the dark part under or over the white? Both, to the eye — the veins sit proud and sandy where the white thins. Piece 1951 of 10,000, listed at $19.51 — the first page of the 1951–2000 run.
