Cream ceramic cup circled by a thin dark horizon line and scribbled loops, under a ribbed lavender-grey rim band, piece 1934 of A Penny For Your Pottery.

A cream cup that reads like a notebook margin: a thin dark horizon line circles the wall and breaks into scribbled loops and “J”-hooks below it, quick and cursive, under a ribbed lavender-grey rim band. Like 1931, the lines sit too crisply to prove a brush — trailed or incised are equally possible — so they stay untagged, described exactly as they look.

Do the loops spell anything? They curl like handwriting but resolve into no letters — gesture, not message. Piece 1934 of 10,000, listed at $19.34.
