Handbuilt ceramic boulder form under a marbled cream wash with pearlescent drips, piece 1901 of A Penny For Your Pottery.

The first piece of the 1901–1950 run carries batch 9’s boulder family straight across the boundary: a handbuilt closed orb with a small hole at the crown, washed in marbled cream that pools into pearlescent drips down the shoulder. The wash swirls rather than covers — darker body shows through in soft veins, so the whole rock reads streaked, like weathered marble.

Is it a vase? Only just — the opening at the top is a small hole rather than a mouth, which is what makes it a boulder in this catalog’s vocabulary. Piece 1901 of 10,000, listed at $19.01.
