Piece 1707 is a tall, tapered vessel in terracotta-red clay, shown on a windowsill holding a loose spray of dried grasses. The bare surface is covered in a fine network of cracks and fissures, crossed by shallow horizontal coil seams that circle the body. Its torn, uneven rim and hand-shaped walls read as hand-built work. Near the base, one patch has darkened to a black, glassy crust, with a few pale spots close by.
Is this piece meant to be a vase? It is photographed holding dried stems, but on its own it is simply a tall, open handbuilt vessel — the dried arrangement is a prop. Piece 1707 of 10,000, listed at $17.07.
