Tall handbuilt vase with a dark crusty bark-like surface, silvery metallic sheen on every raised ridge, and a castellated torn rim, dramatically side-lit.

A tall handbuilt vase whose dark purplish-brown surface is crusted like bark, every raised ridge catching the light with a pronounced silvery pewter sheen. The torn rim steps up and down like battlements, and dimples and pits mark the walls. The store calls it “Salt-Fired,” and it is — the pewter sheen on every ridge is what the salt firing left; the side-lit photos stage it beside a dry branch.

Is it actually metallic? It’s clay — salt-fired, the raised surface shining like brushed pewter in all four photos where the salt firing caught it. Piece 1,706 of 10,000, listed at $17.06.
