The gritty tumblers pick up a little color. This coarse grogged cup keeps its dark-speckled stoneware body, but one side takes a brushed black patch with pale-blue frost drips running down from it — a spot of the chawans’ weather landing on a rough tumbler. The rest stays grey and grainy. The base carries “2190” handwritten.
Grit and paint? Both — a brushed black patch and frosty blue drips on one flank of an otherwise bare, grogged cup. Piece 2190 of 10,000, listed at $21.90.
