Here the peppering finds a direction. A satin warm-white barrel cup, throwing rings circling it, carries a rust-brown streak that runs down the wall — granular, standing a little proud of the pale glaze, gathered from the same iron color that only freckled 2156. Fine speckle still dusts the ground around it. The base shows “2157” handwritten in brown. It is one of the five cups that put surface/rust-streak into the registry.
Where did the freckles go? They lined up — the scattered iron of the cup before it pulled into a single rust-brown run down this wall, the family’s founding streak. Piece 2157 of 10,000, listed at $21.57.
