At a glance it wants to be an amphora — two rough pulled ear loops high on the shoulders — but the mouth is a torn hole straight in the crown with no neck under it, so it files with the two-handled boulders like 2032. The near-black charcoal body is the dark stage for white mud-crack crust: a big rosette panel flakes on the belly with more patches at the shoulder, the pale plates lifting lichen-like off the dark ground — the inverse of 2039’s white-on-warm-brown. Pink-tan sandy grit dusts the crown, grey-green speckled pebble inclusions sit in the flank, and faint pink tinges warm the crust. One loop carries a crack across its outer arc, left as fired and recorded here as-is.
Are piece 2040 and 2039 related? They share the white mud-crack skin but wear it opposite ways — 2039 pale-on-warm, 2040 pale-on-near-black, the two branches of the same crust family. Piece 2040 of 10,000, listed at $20.40.
