A small dark disc, about two penny-widths across going by the coin lying beside it. One face carries fine concentric grooves spiraling toward the center; the second photo turns it over to a smooth, slightly domed reverse with a banded edge. Both photos were taken outdoors on concrete on March 22, 2023 — the oldest photography date in the whole catalog (see that day).
Why is there a penny in the photo? Scale — and, as it happens, price. Every piece in this series costs its number in cents, so the coin beside piece 2 is very nearly its price tag: the second of 10,000, listed at $0.02.
