The only bottle silhouette in the 1848–1899 run: a handbuilt dark body drawn up into a narrow neck — a shape none of its neighbors attempt. It waited as the registry’s first bottle candidate until the 1901–1950 run brought two more (1917, 1918) and the form/bottle term with them.
Why call it a bottle? The photo shows a rounded body narrowing to a slim neck — the classic profile, in the run’s dark clay. Piece 1860 of 10,000, listed at $18.60.
