A tall, waisted vessel built by hand, its walls rising unevenly to a torn, irregular rim. The near-black clay is rough and matte, crossed on one side by broad tan-to-ochre granular patches, and the lower body pinches in toward a small dark foot. In its listing it stands on a weathered board holding a spray of dried grasses and seed heads, with a handwritten note taped to the wall behind — setting arranged around the piece rather than part of it.
Why does one side of Piece 1780 look tan against the black? The near-black body carries broad patches of tan-to-ochre granular texture; what those lighter zones are is not something the photos can settle. Piece 1780 of 10,000, listed at $17.80.
