Near-black handbuilt cup with a torn rim, a small bored hole and vertical cracks down its front wall, a shelf of dark vessels behind, piece 1775 of A Penny For Your Pottery.

One of the darkest of the group — a near-black handbuilt cup with a torn, doubled rim and a wall flecked with pale speckle over the deep charcoal body. A small round hole is bored through the upper front, and a few vertical fissures run down the wall, recorded plainly as they appear. It stands on a white board with a shelf of sibling vessels behind.

What sets it apart from its neighbors? It reads the blackest of the run, with the pale speckle standing out sharply and a few fissures tracking down the wall — all noted neutrally. Piece 1775 of 10,000, listed at $17.75.
