Two skins on one bowl: outside, striated crust like tree bark, chocolate to near-black with pale tan breaking through; inside, a wide crater mottled copper-rust, swirl rings in the floor, wet-looking patches left undescribed. Underneath, a pale buff patch swirls at the center of a dark ring, 583 incised at its lower edge.
Bark or clay? Clay doing bark — the striations are the piece’s own crust, named by resemblance only. Piece 583 of 10,000, listed at $5.83.
