Almost the blank of the run: a bulbous glossy-white cup carrying next to nothing — a faint grey marbled wisp low on the flank, a small tan smudge nearby, and otherwise an unbroken white belly. Where its neighbours wear a rust streak or a soft iron drift, this one keeps the ground nearly clear. The base carries “2161” handwritten in brown.
The plain one? The plainest of the May-4 family — a clean white cup with two barely-there marks, a rest between the streaked cups on either side. Piece 2161 of 10,000, listed at $21.61.
