The boulder decade opens: a closed rock-form in chalky white, its small mouth at the crest, its skin scratch-textured like sun-dried plaster and warmed with clear pinkish-tan blush zones. Two or three dark crusty nodules break the surface, and “1960” is painted in dark pigment on the lower flank — the run’s first painted number, worn on the outside like a quarry mark.
Why paint the number where it shows? On a closed form there’s hardly a base to hide it — the pot carries its ledger entry in plain sight. Piece 1960 of 10,000, listed at $19.60.
