The lidded family’s strangest member: a tall slab-built charcoal brick whose “lid” is a rough stone-like cube seated deep in the square mouth — less a hat than a boulder rolled over a well. The second photo lifts the block out and stands it beside the hollow brick, white flecks catching light near both bases.
Lid or stopper? Stopper says it better — it sinks into the mouth instead of resting on it. Either way it opens and closes, which is what put it in the registry’s lidded-vessel family. Piece 1949 of 10,000, listed at $19.49.
