The only piece in the 1848–1899 run photographed lying down: a handbuilt two-tone vessel on its side, pale zone rolling into dark like a beach pebble caught mid-turn. The pose is the photographer’s choice — the page notes it as staging and reads the surface as shown: two tones, one body, materials unnamed.
Why is it on its side? The listing shot it that way; resting, the two-tone split reads like strata in a cliff face. Nothing about how it stands upright is claimed. Piece 1870 of 10,000, listed at $18.70.
