Rose-brown handbuilt pot lying on its side on a sawn log round, its mouth toward the camera showing the deep hollow interior, piece 1667 of A Penny For Your Pottery.

A rose-brown pot photographed two ways: lying on its side on a log round, mouth toward the camera so the photo looks straight into the deep hollow; and standing, where the crown flares slightly to an uneven rim over pale smears and a rounded foot. The only piece of this stretch posed lying down.

Why is it on its side? Staging — the pose turns the mouth into the subject and lets the camera look all the way in. It stands fine; the second photo proves it. Piece 1,667 of 10,000, listed at $16.67.
